flirtatiousmischief:

Despite knowing now that she was fine now, he did still feel a bit of guilt over what had happened but looking back at the brunette, he felt as if anything was possible, she just had that effect on him. So long as he had her, he was sure he would be able to overcome anything. He knew that Saki would tell him that there was no need for him to worry and in that moment, he felt for the first time that he was able to forgive himself if she did, that was enough as far as he was concerned. He only hoped that she hadn’t run into the informant. He would make sure that she wouldn’t. He would go out of his way making sure that she was safe and that Izaya stayed out of their lives.

He exhaled some, coming to accept that even though throughout this entire time, he did nothing but blame himself for what had happened, that clearly wasn’t the case, not in her eyes. And that in turn, was ultimately what made him finally able to come to terms with that fact. And after all, she never did once leave his thoughts. Not ever. He had hoped that he’d see her again after her release and nothing short of relief and joy flowed through him now.

He wasn’t sure what had made him choose the specific route that he did, but he did get the feeling when he was still walking that something was wonderful was about to occur. He didn’t think much of it at all and was fully prepared to run into the dastardly information dealer but was pleasently surprised in meeting her there instead. Whatever it had been that led him back to her, it was obvious that they were meant for one another. He had thought that it was over between the two but he knew now that wasn’t true, far from it actually.

He enjoyed the feeling of her hand in his, it had been so long but it felt the very same as he remembered. He took to brushing his thumb along her index finger lightly. He met her gaze gently, noticing her blush, only slightly and he smiled down at her lovingly as he recalled every small detail about her. He remembered it all.

His own blush was apparent on his face as she offered to make up for his missed New Year’s kiss. Surely, he had to be dreaming this.

“Well, it’s better late than never, right? I mean—we’re alone here after all, right? So um..” His hesitation was due to his obvious embarassment as he rubbed his hair.

She was alive, she was walking again, and she was in a good state of mind to not be back in the grasp of Izaya. At least not to the point of the complete and utter dependency she had on him at one point in her life. There was a part of Kida that would probably always harbor just a bit of guilt in the back of his head no matter how much time had passed and how many things (positive ones that is) happened with them. That’s something she’d have to work on with him little by little.

Well it was hopefully a much better alternative that she ran into him than Izaya. She’d have been more than a little disappointed if Kida had had so little faith in her that he thought it’d been over between them already. Especially after their bit of time together in the hospital where they finally got to see each other and she got to embrace him again. It’d been the re-bonding time that they so desperately needed.

And here they were now, getting even more of it. Only this time they had the freedom to do and go where they wanted without having to adhere to the rules of the hospital. To her, that was much better of course.

Feeling his hand over hers, it was amazing how a little gesture could make her feel safe again. Kida was free from the grips of the Yellow Scarves and just the gang lie in general, as was she.

“Well, it’s better late than never, right? I mean—we’re alone here after all, right? So um..”

“You’re cute when you’re embarrassed. If you want one then you don’t even have to ask, Kida.”

That was her thoughts anyway, the blonde was adorable when he was flustered. Meanwhile, while Saki was answering him she let go of his cheek so that she could wind her arms around his neck and entwine one hand’s fingers gently into his hair. Her smile was inviting him to just go for it. It wouldn’t be the first time they’d kissed after all.
