While he had in fact considered at least calling her, something always stopped him. Whether it was his fear that she would reject him or the simple fact that he refused to face his past mistake, it made no difference. He could never seem to shake it off. His guilt clung to him every waking moment but all of that had faded now now. She was here and out and about now and that was all that mattered to him. Even so much as just looking at her, made his heart leap for joy.
It went without saying that although he never did pluck up the courage to reach out to her during her time in the hospital, he had never gotten the girl out of his mind. Whenever things seemed rough, or even in the event that they weren’t, she was always the face he saw. It always was. He had merely been out on one of his daily walks throughout the city, in desperate need of clearing his head. It was a seemingly typical day for the blond; that was until she showed up. Relieving him of any and all negative thoughts. She always did seem to have that effect on him.
He leaned into her touch and placed his free hand on his hers lightly, smiling even more deeply at the action.
“Hm. Is that so? Well, that’s good to hear, Saki. I’m glad. And uh, I’ve been keeping busy. But tonight, I was just out walking. You know how I tend to do that at night—it helps me think. But I never expected to see you here. I’m glad I came out here when I did and ya know, I never did get a New Year’s kiss.”
In Saki’s eyes there was no need to hold onto such feelings of guilt anymore. Her injuries had healed, she was out of the hospital, and for the moment she was safe. It wasn’t a complete done deal that she was free from the emotional and mental hold Izaya had on her, but the fact that she hadn’t immediately run back to him following her release was a start.
The fact that he’d come by the hospital more than a few times meant a lot, even if Kida still felt too guilty to come inside and properly face her. He still thought about her, while she was still cooped up, that was enough. There was time to see him and talk once she was out and on her own again.
And whatever reason it was that brought them to the exact same spot in Ikebukuro that evening, Saki wasn’t about to question or argue it. Maybe it was fate, who knows. Apparently some greater force wanted him back by her side, which she was all to happy to keep him at. Starting with keeping her hand on his cheek, letting the feel of his skin seep back into her mind. She probably didn’t realize just how much she missed Kida until he was within her grasp again. The brunette nodded in agreement when he said that she knew how he often took late night walks, she did in fact remember that detail about him now that he brought it up. Though he probably wouldn’t see it, while her mind was thinking of what she’d say in a matter of seconds, her pale cheeks were heating up just a little bit as she looked back up at him.

“Well I can’t do much about making sure that your walk makes you feel better, but I could help with not yet getting a kiss for New Year’s…”
