You have received an invitation.
[ I am hosting a dinner party tomorrow night and I’d like to join—- there will be other guests—- all of whom have not gotten their ‘fair share in life’, in the evening we will play a game, whoever wins—- will leave rich. ]
—— Orihara Izaya
‘This was surely going to be interesting’ The host thought to himself, his servant gestured to the dining room, it was time. All of the people who received an invitation seemed to have accepted it. How foolish, in the invitation he didn’t even specify what kind of game it was. It was humorous how they didn’t even know what they were getting themselves into. He entered the room, all of the guests were still standing. “Everyone, please take a seat..all of you have been given name cards specifying your number.” If one were to look around the dining room, they’d notice that there were windows behind the curtains, yet the windows were blockaded by metal, all of them. Once everyone was seated, the host took his seat, at the very end of the table. Whilst the servants moved towards the door, standing at each side guarding it. “—-And, good evening everyone… I apologize if I have kept anyone waiting. Welcome to the Orihara Household.. In regards of tonight’s game, allow me to alleviate any concerns that you may have. The game is not a quiz or a trivia contest, nor is it a test of brute strength or athleticism..at it’s core it’s just a children’s game. And, I would wager that some of you here this evening have played the game Would You Rather—— at some point. So— how do we play…In each round, each player will be given the choice between A or B and usually neither choice is very attractive or appealing— okay allow me to give you an example—-“ He faced his two servants. "Would you rather—-kiss the secretary, or would you rather kiss your fellow servant?” Soon as he was given the answer he had assumed, ‘the secretary’ he proceeded. “Now—- our version of the game is different— whatever you choose you must act upon. But of course, the game is not going to consist with just this, I had just gotten this idea from the top of my head…. it will be much more—- unappealing… as the game continues with one dilemma after another—- we will illuminate players as we go until we have a winner.” Feeling a sudden discomfort from the others as he said illuminated, he began to explain. "What I mean by illuminated— is if a certain player is unable to continue— for whatever reason— then they are illuminated and if someone refuses to make a choice—- then that would also be grounds for illumination. And one more thing—- the dilemmas are timed, you must make your decision in 15 seconds or you will be illuminated. The reason why I can’t give you all prize money—- is as simple as the game is— it’s all about decision making in it’s rawest form and there’s no better window to a persons character then the decisions that they make and how they make them and how one applies rational, ethics, and reason while under stress. Tonight we will test your limits and ultimately prove that you deserve the help of money for whatever reason.”
“If anyone—- no longer wishes to play…now is your opportunity to leave. We have cars waiting outside.”
Number six. That was her number. That’s where she was supposed to sit at this table, surrounded by nine other people, most of them faces she didn’t recognize. One she did, the host himself.
Everyone else in the room looked as subtly confused as Saki knew she was. The invitation had been rather vague, saying that they were coming for a ‘game’ had almost infinite possibilities. This was Izaya, sure, but how bad could this game really be?
Oh how the naive will fall.
She was probably one of the quietest in the room, quite unlike the noir seated nearby that had a striking resemblance to Izaya himself, but whether or not there was a relation Saki had no idea.
Even as the rules were explained, they were still quite vague. Sure they outlined how the 'game’ would be played, but he still hadn’t explained what exactly would be asked of them to actually do. Elimination probably just involved ejection from the room and you’re not allowed to re-enter. Easy enough.
“If anyone—- no longer wishes to play…now is your opportunity to leave. We have cars waiting outside.”

Looking around at the other nine at the table, no one else made any motion to get up. Seems they were all equally determined to win this, or at least not get eliminated this early on in the game. The brunette remained still in her seat as the seconds passed, and her eyes moved back to Izaya, waiting for the host to decide when to continue. Seems they’d be starting any time now.
