It had been a considerable amount of time that passed and he was nothing short of relieved to finally see her, if not a twinge of regret. On one hand, he was happy that she was safe and out of the informant’s clutches or at least he hoped that much was true yet on the other, he never did bother getting in touch with her even after they spent so many nights together.

He could never forget the hand holding or feeling of snuggling into her warm embrace. It was almost like a dream—seeing her here right in front of him. He’d seen this scene before so many times in his mind’s eye but now, this was reality and he would need to face his regrets rather than running from them now. But he didn’t mind if it was for her. He knew for certain that he would do anything for her now.

He took in her amber eyes for a moment longer, just looking over her frame. Not much had changed it seemed. Her hair was just as luscious as he’d remembered. Same wonderful smile that lit up her entire beautiful face and within moments, he felt his own smile extend onto his lips, forgetting his remorse when he felt her hand slip into his. She was warm and he no doubt missed their moments like this.

“Yeah..about that. I’ve been fine, really. I’m glad you’re safe, Saki. I really am. I missed you too. I’m sorry for worrying you though. I should have at least called to check up on you. I’m sorry.” He squeezed her hand gently.

They were both relieved to see the other, that much was palpable between them already. She’d been out of contact with Izaya for some time now thankfully. The temptation to text or call him was there, but every time Saki thought about opening her phone and opening up a new text message, Kida’s face would flash across her mind and she’d close it again.

Whether or not it was pure coincidence that brought him to the same place she was today remained to be seen, but in any case Saki was glad that he did. It gave her the peace of mind she’d needed to know that he was safe. Ikebukuro still wasn’t safe, not by a long shot, and certainly not for the former leader of one of the more notorious gangs for the past few years. Saki didn’t doubt that her boyfriend could take care of himself and defend himself if need be, but gang members could and would be ruthless if they saw fit. Kidnapping her was one of those examples, orchestrated or not.

The hand of hers that wasn’t currently held in his, came up to hold Kida’s cheek, keeping it there. Only more confirmation that he really and truly was safe and sound.

“It’s fine Kida, I’ve been perfectly safe since I got released from the hospital. I’ve been careful whenever I do go out and I’ve always got someone with me. You don’t need to worry. So what’ve you been doing, you going out somewhere for New Year’s a bit early, or something else?”
