Sure, it occured to him that he was in fact fired from his position as leader of the Scarves but that was the farthest thing from his mind at the time. The only thing that he could bring himself to think of was her. It was because of Saki that he realized being in a gang just didn’t matter. Not really. And he was sure as long as he had her, it would be more than enough. She’d brought out the best sides of him and for that, he was eternally grateful. And sure, while in the end, she never once prodded him about it. She didn’t need to. His mind was long since made up.
He was never going to let Saki go, now that he finally had her. Nothing in the world was going to stand in the way of that. He was finally able to accept the fact that he was good enough for her and that he did indeed deserve her. Relief rushed through him as he fully registered this time around that this was all very real. It wasn’t a dream—or some sort of fantasy he had merely made up. No, this time, it was true and the moment was perfect. He knew now that he would live with her happily, wherever that may be. The two had grown up a lot since their time in the city. He felt like he could take on the world as long as he had her. Leaving his friends behind was a price he would be willing to pay. Maybe they’d visit one day who knows. For now, returning to the city again was the farthest thing from his mind.
Smiling genuinely down at her with a shy embaressed smile showing vividly across his expression, he thought about how much things have changed. Saki herself hadn’t—she was still just as sweet and wonderful as he remembered. Just as kind and full of spunk as always and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He knew that although he always made it a point to flirt with as many girls as he could, Saki was always going to the one girl his heart truly belonged to. Pulling the girl into a tight embrace once more, he kissed the top of her head, just because as he began stroking her soft brunette locks.
“Mm. Maybe so. But ya do come pretty damn close to it. At least in my eyes, Saki. Doesn’t matter. As long as I’m with you. And ya could do that. But hey, didja wanna go somewhere? Well—I dunno maybe like a date? Kinda like how we used to! It’s the perfect oppurtunity for us to catch up a bit more. Don’t cha think?”
She was more relieved that he was free from the underground life simply because of his safety being taken into consideration. When she visited him in the hospital, he was admitted for a head injury amongst other little things. He’s only lucky to have walked away with nothing but a concussion and a sore body, it could’ve been much much worse had Mikado and Anri not been there. Not something she particularly wanted to dwell on, but she’d be a fool to deny that as a very real possibility back then.
Thankfully all of this, being impeached from his position of power as well as having some quiet time in the hospital during his admittance period as well as getting to see Saki face to face for the first time in over half a year, it was the reality wake up call that he so desperately needed. Now that he realized he didn’t need to lead a gang in order to feel like just his existence was necessary or worth something, he could find something that satisfied him more, and if that something was simply being by Saki’s side again and trying to live a normal life again then so be it. He wouldn’t exactly find Saki complaining about it.
Saki knew her words rang true; she highly doubted that Kida’s flirtatious nature would ever fully go away. Sure it might diminish over time as he grew up and settled down a bit more as an adult, but even then simple words in a conversation could have that slight tonal implication of flirting, but she knew that if they weren’t directed at her, then they didn’t actually mean anything more than something to make him feel like he was flirting. Those words she spoke to him in her old hospital room were spoken because she knew they were the truth. She knew that he loved her, and it wasn’t the incredibly naive sort of teenage romance, no, he loved her.
When Kida pulled her close once again, her own arms wrapped around his thin frame and a smile adorned her lips once more. Amazing how such a simple gesture could be missed so much, but then again a year of separation could feel like an eternity to some.
“Whatever you want to do is fine by me, I don’t have to be anywhere for the rest of the day. Why don’t we find some place to have coffee, something hot sounds nice. I remember you liked all the sweeter drinks whenever we went out for some. I’d like to hear what you’ve been up to~”
